"The winners in life think constantly in terms of I can, I will, and I am. Losers, on the other hand, concentrate their waking thoughts on what they should have or would have done, or what they can't do."

- Dennis Waitley

             Message from Gavin Sharples

It is 2010 and time for massive amounts of positive action.

Decide now to make this year one of action, of doing, instead of talking, wishing, fantasising and dreaming.

I honestly believe that companies should stop employing people with degrees but should rather look out for people who hold the qualification of GSD.

A GSD person is a person who Gets Stuff Done. One GSD will get done 10 times the amount that an intellectual paper shuffler will, in half the time with far better results.

Seek out these GSD's, create them and cling on to them as if they were diamonds. Perhaps it's time you enrolled in your own GSD program. Yes, it is time for you to become a certified GSD. It really is very simple and goes something like this:

Step One - Create 3 “To-do” lists

Go out and buy yourself a 2010 action diary.
Create in it three lists.

List 1: Things I have to do
List 2: Things I wanna do
List 3: Fun things to do this year

Now populate these lists as quickly as you can without getting too complicated. They could look something like this:

1. THINGS I HAVE TO DO

  • Increase productivity
  • Increase sales
  • Reduce the overheads
  • Cut costs
  • Repair the water pipe
  • Create a “jobs to do around the house” list
  • Enrol kids in school
  • Lose weight
  • Create a list of the things that have to be done and are a priority
2. THINGS I WANNA DO
  • Read a good book every month
  • Start my movie collection
  • Join a club
  • Take a course
  • Visit a museum
  • Get fit and healthy
  • Create a list of things that you would like to achieve, do, be or have and just write it down
3. FUN THINGS TO DO
  • Spend more time with...
  • Create a family fun to do list
  • Start a hobby
  • Spend more time on my hobby
  • Have a party
  • Create a list of things that put you in a good mood and allow you to enjoy life

Step two - Design a “How-to” Mind Map

In your 2010 Daily Action Diary ™ or DAD ™, you now have three lists of things that you need to get done, want to get done, and fun things you want to do.

Now create a page for each one writing the thing to do in the middle and, using a simple mind map, write down all the things that need to be done in order for it to happen.

That's it! Keep it simple and colour it in, cross out or mark every action that you do. Most people try and complicate their lives. Don't. It's really that simple. Place the actions that you need to do every day into your Daily Action Diary ™ on the corresponding days that the actions need to be taken. Create alarms and reminders on your cell phone to remind you to take action.

Step three - Do it now!

The difference between those who achieve and succeed and those who don't comes down to one word. Action.

Procrastination is fear-based. We procrastinate when we believe we cannot achieve it and we fear not been good enough or seeing ourselves as being a failure. So stop thinking and delaying and just:

Make that phone call, take that chance, spend the time, pay the price, take the pain, send the invites, set up a schedule, enrol in the program, ask her out, ask him out, take a risk, take a chance, walk away, step up, step in, step forward, put your hand up, stand up, speak up, shut up, listen, ask, have sex, make time, take the time, give, love, forgive, get started, keep going, get involved, give it up, never quit, persist, do it now!
